As a home school mom of a child with Dyslexia, and as a former English/ reading intervention teacher, my opinion is that the AI voice is not clear enough when asking children to spell words on Spelling Quest. In several words, the short E sounds too similar to the short vowel sound I, and the short vowel sound A sounds like a short vowel sound E. The AI voice should be, without a doubt, clear because there is no context with the words. You can’t guess the word based on other words in a sentence because you just have the one word. You have to be able to hear it clearly enough to spell it. There is a clear difference in American English between short vowel sounds for A, E, and I, and the AI voice should reflect that better. Also, words like CAR and SIR should not be in the first module of CVC words because AR and IR are special phonograms. You can’t simply sound out CAR and SIR using basic letter sounds. They have special rules, so they should be in a different module. Furthermore, signing up is not straightforward so I accidentally paid twice. They did fix it quickly, but it was frustrating to figure it out.
