some of the activities for year1 are very out of place for the time of year. Making banana covered bird feeders in July only serves to attract wasps, causing another problem. Hunting down 60 pine cones in the summer is also tricky. The amount of resources needed to complete the learning is exhausting and expensive, which makes it hard for a lot of schools now.

We always aim to keep resource requirements to a minimum and ensure they are low cost and manageable for schools. In some cases, pine cones remain where they fall and can often be found throughout the year, but we appreciate that availability may vary. They are also inexpensive to purchase online if needed. We will add a note in the Autumn 2 unit suggesting teachers collect pine cones in advance to help with preparation for this activity.
