This is what were were looking for. It took a few weeks to engage all staff and to move from paper-based observations and monitoring. Now we've streamlined things. The look and the feel of the system is good and it's very easy to use. Adding photos and videos enables us to really do justice to the breadth of our curriculum. It's incredibly efficient and doesn't compromise.

Ben Notman found Nautilus:
  • Improves attainment
The teachers feel that the system is very supportive. We like the balance of challenge and support and the fact we can provide feedback direct. We have seen teachers develop their practice using supportive feedback. This has a direct impact on outcomes.
  • Improves teaching efficiency
Less time writing reports and doing admin, more time responding to feedback. The fact that you can perform a lesson drop in and then share feedback direct removes all admin. Also helpful for subject leaders to QA their subjects quickly and simply.
  • Improves teacher knowledge
Teacher development is as good as the observer or leader performing the activity. This is something that we have improved as a team. Nautilus has change the purpose of observation and enabled leaders to get better at supporting each other. We also love the Gallery and how it guides staff, helping them to see what the learning outcomes should look like in each area.
  • Saves school money
We shopped around and have compared since. This is a powerful tool for the price. We've also seen it continually improved with lots of features. The Knowledge Base was added during a holiday and then we were able to generate self evaluation reports. The offer is getting better while the price stays stable, which is great.
  • Builds student knowledge
We focus on formative assessment using the system to develop AFL in school. Staff rely less on tests and have improved how they teach. This is now in our school improvement plan. We also use the pupil surveys to gain views and to work with the children more closely. This is good feature.
