We recommend measuring impact after weekly use of AV1 for a full term (~6 weeks).
Carla Thom, Head of School: Spelling Tutor (part of Dyslexia Gold) has really made a huge impact on our spelling results and we have rolled it out across the whole school now, regardless of ability or SEND status. It now forms an integral part of our day for regular spelling and reading repeated practice. It uses spaced repetition to focus on what words individuals needs to learn sequentially. It caters for all learners, including spelling words from Y5/6 NC lists.
Eileen Maceachern, SENCO: Dyslexia Gold is cost-effective, easy to set up and simple for children to use. Our children particularly enjoyed playing Engaging Eyes.
Sue Wells, Specialist teacher: The high frequency words cover a good deal of the national curriculum and therefore go a long way to improving a child's day to day spelling in their written work - this in turn improves their confidence, which is important
Richard Marrett, Teacher/Co-ordinator for LAC & Alternative provision: Very accessible for lessons, but does not help with interaction and socialising skills when at home all the time.
Amy, Teacher and Pastoral Leader: Connectivity is increasingly becoming more and more of an issue, signal drops out during lessons and the AV1 is not always providing clear audio or visuals for the student. When it does work it is a 10 out of 10 but just not 100% reliable unfortunately.
Emma Murray, Headteacher: Difficulty setting up. Primary schools do not have technicians and it took a long time. It is also difficult because you can only have one user on one robot. We have two children in the same class that need to access it and we have to have two AVs. Also it is a real chore to delete a user and set up the AV for the next child.Any browser and wifi.
