Why your school needs touch-typing

Touch typing is an essential 21st-century skill, but it’s often signposted to
typing clubs, afterschool clubs or, worse still, completely overlooked!

So why is touch-typing so important?

When pupils type with just a couple of fingers, they use their conscious minds. They think as they do, and this creates an additional mental load. However, when they touch type using all digits, the skill is automatised and transferred to their subconscious, freeing
the ‘conscious’ mind to concentrate on more important tasks, such as planning, processing, creative writing and the task at hand.

Touch-typing also helps level the playing field for SEN pupils, increasing
independence and confidence. Just listen to the inspiring words of this young learner:

This is a skill that can be used in exams, subject to Access Arrangements, and increases productivity. Most importantly, however, touch-typing equips pupils with a life skill that they can take into HE/FE and, eventually, into the workplace.

Every child wants to be the champion!

Engaging pupils is vital, which is why KAZ Type holds a FREE annual worldwide touch-typing tournament and encourages schools to participate. The tournament always creates excitement, engages pupils and brings out their natural competitive spirit.

Practising and participating in the tournament builds skill, speed and accuracy without learners even realising it! The KAZ Type team were thrilled to announce ESMS champions of their 2021-2022worldwide touch typing tournament.

Well done to Andreea, who took first prize with a score of 73 WPM and an
Accuracy of 98%! ESMS have claimed the sparkling trophy and their free annual licence,
and Andrea has proudly received her framed winner’s certificate!

We hope that the spirit of the competition and the commitment and effort put in by teachers has impressed upon pupils that learning a skill can be enjoyable. The KAZ team can’t wait to get started on the new competition, which begins shortly.

Why is KAZ different?

KAZ’s innovative touch-typing EdTech is inclusive, designed for both mainstream and neurodiverse pupils alike, allowing the whole class to work together.

The proven Accelerated Learning teaching method incorporates ‘brain balance’, teaching both hands to work symmetrically and simultaneously.

The KAZ portal allows the upload of pupil lists in minutes, and the new, specialised ‘Word Bank’ feature allows the zoning and upload of spellings / problematic words, allowing pupils to learn to spell and type at the same time.

Give your pupils a head start – teach them to type.
