What is Developing Experts?

Developing Experts is a complete science curriculum programme for children aged 4 to 16 years and functions as a careers platform for the whole family. With a complete set of interactive and sequenced lessons, it is the ideal platform for teaching science in the classroom and consolidating revision or extra learning at home.

It provides a growing library of over 1000 online lessons, with practical investigations, handouts and assessment quizzes included. All resources are fully mapped against the National Curriculum, with scientific skills and learning outcomes clearly outlined in each lesson. With differentiated resources, teachers are able to provide their class with a wide range of tasks and track their students' progress.

As a science provider, DE has a sustained focus on a green future and aims to meet the targets set out in the DfE's sustainability and climate change policy; namely, that pupils should be educated on climate change through 'knowledge-rich education' which should in turn be translated into 'positive action and solutions'. By targeting primary-aged pupils, DE also seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM by encouraging women, ethnic minorities and students from a socio-economically disadvantaged background to pursue science as a career pathway.

A focus on career links and future employment opportunities is a core outcome of the platform. Lessons come with expert and career videos, allowing students to see the application of knowledge and scientific skills in the workplace. Illustrating careers and knowledge in this way increases teachers' confidence and allows their students' potential to flourish.

Recommended Usage

Each lesson in the curriculum is designed to be flexible and can be modified to suit an individual teacher's schedule, with a rough completion time of around 1 hour. Since the units are build upon prior knowledge and tasks are often ongoing, we recommend that users should engage with Developing Experts for at least 3/4 weeks to experience the full benefits of the platform.

Jun 2023

I have already recommended DE to many colleagues across our borough, as it has made my job A LOT easier as a teacher and a subject lead of science. EVERYTHING is provided, yet it is so easily adaptable for our school’s and pupils’ needs. 2 years in, looking at the data, we wouldn’t use anyone else at this point.

Mary Farmer found Developing Experts:
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
Seeking out expert reviews/resources; having progression documents ready-made to present to staff as the subject lead; ideas for the wider curriculum…I could go on!
  • Moderately reduces attainment gap
Our send pupils have made greater progress this year in my class as I have been able to adjust their learning accordingly due to the less able and challenge aspects already being catered for.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
We have a very consistent approach at our school as we are all using the scheme. It’s enabled us to plug gaps and communicate effectively with regards to transition.
  • Moderately improves attainment
I believe so, as we are all using the same assessment documents and benchmarks from DE which means that data is consistent and I, as the SL, am able to see an improvement in attainment as staff are more confident with their assessments.
  • Moderately builds student knowledge
During a recent pupil voice I did, many students were able to recall knowledge from previous year group’s learning. This proved to us that DE supports our spiral curriculum where we can build upon prior knowledge and improve retention of knowledge.

May 2023

Excellent!

Yehana found Developing Experts:
  • Moderately reduces teacher workload
With the available resources [Presentations &Assessment Quizzes]
  • Moderately reduces attainment gap
Flexibility in Learning: Online platforms can offer flexibility in terms of when and where students can access educational content. This can be particularly beneficial for students who face challenges such as geographic isolation, health issues, or other personal circumstances that make traditional classroom attendance difficult. By providing flexibility, online resources can help mitigate the impact of such barriers on educational attainment.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
Access to a Wide Range of Materials: Online platforms offer educators access to a vast array of teaching materials, including lesson plans, worksheets, multimedia resources, and interactive activities. This extensive library of resources can save teachers significant time and effort in designing and creating instructional materials from scratch.
  • Moderately improves attainment
Technological Barriers: The digital divide, characterized by unequal access to technology and the internet, can exacerbate the attainment gap. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds may lack the necessary devices, reliable internet access, or digital literacy skills to fully engage with online resources. This can limit their ability to access educational content and participate effectively in online learning, widening the attainment gap.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
Expanded Access to Information: Online resources offer students access to a vast amount of information from various sources. They can access e-books, scholarly articles, educational videos, and interactive learning modules, allowing them to explore topics beyond the limitations of traditional classroom resources. This expanded access to information can broaden students' knowledge base and expose them to a wider range of perspectives. Interactive Learning Experiences: Many online educational resources provide interactive elements such as simulations, virtual laboratories, and educational games. These interactive experiences actively engage students in the learning process, allowing them to apply concepts, practice skills, and explore real-world scenarios. Such hands-on experiences can deepen understanding and enhance retention of knowledge
