What is micro:bit?

The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer designed to support children and teachers taking their first steps with coding and computational thinking. The latest iteration now includes a built-in speaker, microphone and touch sensor, enabling easier teaching with sound straight out of the box.

The educational package on offer from the Micro:bit Educational Foundation enables all teachers worldwide to deliver coding lessons, offering teaching resources, lesson plans and design challenges all freely available via our website as well as fully supported coding editors in Microsoft MakeCode and Python.

Also available for teachers is the unique micro:bit classroom, an online platform for live coding lessons which makes managing and reviewing students’ work quick and easy – set up takes just two minutes for MakeCode and Python - and it can be done in a classroom setting or remotely. All that's needed is an internet connection and both teacher and student are ready to go.
