What is Running Paper?
Running Paper helps schools mark handwritten assessments faster and more consistently at scale.
The platform enables teachers to mark handwritten, pen and paper assessments in seconds, dramatically reducing the time traditionally spent on marking and providing personalised feedback.
Running Paper works with both newly created worksheets and existing materials such as existing worksheets, exams, and past papers, making it versatile for various educational contexts. The system is built with teachers in mind, focusing on maintaining the benefits of traditional paper-based assessments while eliminating the time-consuming marking process.
The platform can process up to 1000 pages at once via the bulk uploader; no need to manually sort pages to each student. Running Paper platform is able to read even the most complex handwriting, provide detailed yet straightforward feedback, and significantly reduce marking time. Many teachers report being able to provide same day feedback to students, which was previously impossible due to time constraints. The system also integrates with over 25 management information systems (MIS), ensuring seamless incorporation into existing school infrastructure. Running Paper can be used across KS3 to KS5 across all major subjects as well as IB.
In terms of getting started: teachers create assessments either directly on the platform or by uploading existing materials. Second, they print the assessments and distribute them to students. All the students need is a pen (ideally black or blue). Third, teachers scan all completed work into a single file and upload it to the platform. Finally, Running Paper automatically processes the submissions, allocating the work to each student, marking every question with feedback, and providing class-wide analysis. This implementation allows teachers to focus more on responding to assessment results and improving lessons rather than spending hours on marking.

Running Paper is a web-based platform accessible via any modern web browser. It works on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook devices, as well as tablets and smartphones. No installation is required. A standard school internet connection is sufficient, and no specialist hardware is needed.
Set up time can vary depending on school approval processes and onboarding scheduling, but most schools are fully set up within a few days. Once MIS access is securely connected via Wonde and the onboarding session is complete, teachers can begin using the platform immediately. Our team provides support during initial setup and first assessments to ensure a smooth and confident start.
Training is typically delivered through live online onboarding sessions, where we guide staff through setup, uploading assessments, reviewing marks, feedback, Question Level Analysis, and class reports. We also provide documentation and video guides for ongoing reference. In-person training is available where required and our team provides continued support during initial use to ensure staff are confident using the platform.
The platform is not directly accessed by parents. However, teachers can choose to share assessment results, marked scripts, and personalised feedback with parents via email. This allows parents to stay informed about student progress.
