What is Switch4Schools?
In today’s digitally enabled and socially complex environment, student mental health and wellbeing (and collecting high quality mental health data) is one of the biggest challenges facing educators today. The Switch4Schools app act as a bridge between data, insight, and embedded behavioural change. It is an innovative, simple and effective way of resolving this challenge by practically building emotional intelligence in students and giving educators critical real-time data on student health and wellbeing. No product currently in market creates real time, high quality data combined with psychologically proven tools and mental strategies. Using a strong human centred design approach, teachers have validated and co-created a solution that is both practical, effective, and engaging. With improved visibility of the emotional state of students, teachers can better manage the learning environment resulting in an uplift in academic performance.
There are five major challenges facing many schools that Switch4Schools helps solve.
1. The growing mental health crisis in the student population, particularly in relation to anxiety and depression (while most current programs target students already identified as ‘at risk’, Switch4Schools can be applied to the general student population to improve student outcomes and avoid future incidents).
2. There is no mechanism to provide reliable real-time data that provides a valid indicator of student emotional and mental health, while also protecting the privacy and psychological safety of the students and teachers.
3. Most mental health programs are designed purely for in-person face-to-face interactions, becoming largely ineffective for remote learning or tracking improvement over time.
4. Psychological frameworks and data tracking apps often don’t naturally translate into practical application, relying on the intellect of individuals to translate nebulous concepts into real behaviour change.
5. Principals and school decision-makers need quantitative data to improve the confidence, speed and quality of decisions.
The app is flexible enough to work on any platform, device or browser, and can be applied in the classroom in a way that works with the teachers current way of working. Most teachers 'habit-stack' the check-in process with roll call, with the younger grades showing a more diverse approach inresponce to the needs and rituals of their classrooms. Switch4Schools is designed to empower the teacher-student trust circle, helping build trust and rapport, and providing a self-directed lerning pathway for students to better self-regulate emotion. It is also a very effective and simple coaching tool for reachers and support staff when helping guide students.
