I recommend it all the time. I now share our account with the geography department and they also found it a useful tool during remote learning.

Hugh found Twig World:
  • Moderately improves attainment
It engages some students who otherwise find concentration a problem. It is also useful for stretching the more able children.
  • Moderately builds student knowledge
There are lots of films that sit slightly outside the mainstream syllabus which allows the boys to explore around a given topic. The way the videos are presented, as a web with the most relevant material near the centre, helps the children to focus on core ideas or to spread their wings a little more widely.
  • Slightly reduces attainment gap
I have not done a comparison, so the honest answer is that I don't know. Twig has become as much a part of my teaching Y5 to Y8 as any other school resource. It was used a lot during remote learning to set tasks for pupils and I use it in class and during private study sessions. I don't use any text books so it is one the ways that I support the notes I produce for the students - I do know that they are always very happy to use Twig.
  • Slightly improves teaching efficiency and productivity
Again, I have not tested this and 'teaching efficiency' is not a phrase we often use. It is a little utilitarian. At the age group with which we work, there is more emphasis on engaging/enthusing and less on achieving any specific set of goals.
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
It has been a life saver when one of my colleagues was away from school. It allowed me to set structured lessons around a body of information set by Twig so that follow up tasks could be completed. It removed the need for a specialist to cover the missed lessons and ensured that the students remained confident that they were making good progress. I am sure that it reduced grumbling!
