We are a special school with a range of students working between early years and GCSE at higher level. For most of our students, the Maths Whizz programme is really engaging. It continually assesses student progress and sets them work that is in line with their current working at level and provides us with timely feedback on anything that they may find trickier. The graphics and building up gems appeals to the students and the teacher graphics on our page shows student progress at a glance and can be shared with students on the whiteboard, which is updated each minute. This encourages our students to strive to gain their gems and get into the hall of fame.

Jane Gardiner found Whizz Education:
  • Provides school data
We use the data to check against the data we are seeing within the classroom and in assessments as a secondary source to confirm our own results
  • Reduces teacher workload
It provides students with regular practice of key skills that they may not always have time for during lessons, particularly when moving onto other topics and ensures there are no gaps in learning or if there are then that these can be quickly plugged with intervention work. Students enjoy engaging with the programme so it helps to make maths fun.
  • Reduces attainment gap
As described above, it helps us to keep practicing the foundation skills in maths that students need in a fun and engaging way and shows where gaps in knowledge are so that we can plug these with timely interventions.
  • Improves teaching efficiency
We can change what is delivered on Maths Whizz to incorporate topics that students are doing currently or need more practice of so that it can become an integral part of a lesson.
  • Improves parent engagement
Some students are very engaged in working on their maths at home and showing what skills they are learning. Parents like to see the work that they are doing and feel that the programme works well for their children.
