Don't know how we ever managed without widgit!

Reply from Widgit:Thank you for sharing this, Wendy! It’s fantastic to hear how you’ve integrated Widgit into your school’s curriculum and made it an important part of your teaching!
Wendy found Widgit:
  • Moderately reduces teacher workload
Supporting adaptation of lessons. The widgits being a permanent clue as to what to do rather than verbal instructions needing to be repeated over and over, leaving the teaching team more time to teach all pupils.
  • Moderately reduces attainment gap
Supporting our dyslexic learners to access tasks independantly and to then be able to get started, meaning that they have work that can be assessed. SEND children use widgit to access the same learning as their peers, which is helping them to close the attainment gap.
  • Significantly increases student collaboration
Widgit is used across the curriculum, so for example, in Science the pupils use widgits to sort cards into caroll and venn diagrams. In PSHE to sort cards for discussion.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
Making our pupils with SEND more independent learners
  • Significantly improves behaviour or wellbeing
Widgit is used throughout our school for pastoral and behaviour support to remind the pupils of expectations as well as to let the teachers know how they are feeling. This impacts in building consistent and restorative relationships with staff and by reducing the time spent away from academic teaching. Feelings scales are in every class alongside a scale of sensations. School rules and corridor rules are displayed in widgit too, adding an inclusive aspect to the school.
