Sep 2021

It's helped to manage exclusions, seclusions and increase attendance particularly with students who are persistent absentees. We used it positively to support students who have been moved out of the area on child protection plans and to facilitate reintegration to mainstream school when they've been through trauma. It's also been used to support students with high anxiety who were struggling to come into the building so their educational needs were met before they were able to build up their confidence to be in face-to-face, full-time education. We used it in internal inclusion as an intervention for behaviour modification.

Adele Chilton found EDClass:
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
EDClass has allowed the school to set accurate work for exclusions which means that students will always have an education if paper-based materials haven't been sent. It's also been useful for cover lessons.
  • Significantly reduces attainment gap
It does have an impact on the attainment gap when the students engage. The assessments helped students who struggled to get onsite.
  • Slightly improves teaching efficiency
Hard to comment because EDClass is being used as an inclusion intervention and for inclusions rather than a whole-school initiative. They haven't incorporated it into everyday teaching and learning.
  • Significantly improves attainment
Three students completed their GCSE year on EDClass seats and it's prevented them from permanent exclusion.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
The students have completed their GCSE's from using EDClass and they may not have achieved a grade without access to the platform.
