We are really impressed with the EDClass and are starting to utilise it for students in detention. For example, we are focusing on Literacy currently, and EDClass has the books that each student is studying in a digital format, so we're assigning Literature lessons to our detention students, so they get meaningful learning that reinforces what they've been studying in the classroom. It's easy for the teacher in the Detention Room to just ask the student to complete their EDClass learning, knowing that there's a bespoke pathway in place for each individual learner. We now have an Aspire Room in school, which has laptops set up for EDClass, alongside teachers delivering English and Maths in the classroom. This helps with differentiation and student management whilst giving the students a variety of learning methods. It's really allowed our Aspire Room to develop and encourage our students to return to the classroom.

  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
    We use EDClass as an alternative provision. It works really well, as our teachers simply tell me (the administrator) what learning is taking place in school and I map the EDClass learning to mirror the school's curriculum. EDClass takes away the need for lesson-planning, as the lessons are already available through the platform, so teachers can be confident that their AP students are receiving relevant learning without actually having to get involved with planning the lessons themselves, as they would if providing work in other formats, so it's a great time-saver in that respect.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
    We map our EDClass pathways to the school curriculum. We had a high-level student that wasn't attending school, but both she and mum were really pleased with EDClass, as it provided lesson feedback, just like you receive in school. EDClass allows reluctant learners, or those with varying levels of need to receive the same learning opportunities as they would in school. Unlike other alternative provisions, EDClass provides our AP students with the high quality of learning, that they'd get in school.
  • Significantly improves attainment
    EDClass helps to maintain attainment. One of our learners absolutely loves EDClass. In fact, she engages so well with EDClass that she's used it in school too. I can really see that EDClass has given her the confidence to return to school, to the point that she's now going back into lessons after long-term reluctance to enter the classroom. We also have a school refuser, who now attends the school's Alternative Provision room to complete EDClass learning. He's learning in a way that suits him, but at the same time he's getting the same education as the other students in school. EDClass made his re-engagement easier, because we allowed him to study the Sciences (his favourite subjects) for the first week, but then started to feed in Maths and English, etc. so that he's now following a full, varied timetable.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
    EDClass definitely helps to build student knowledge. We often start off with a basic knowledge pathway (especially in instances where there has been missed learning) and then increase the level of learning as the student gains confidence. This helps students to believe in their own ability, because they know that they've progressed to a higher level. We find that with certain types of learner, it's better than going straight in at a level that's too challenging and the student becoming disengaged because the work is too difficult.
