I can use this for all students from Yrs11-18. Although the question bank is aimed at KS3/4, students doing A Levels benefit from revising GCSE content through Educake. I can also test KS5 content by writing my own questions. Consequently almost every student in the school has an account (because they almost all take Science at one Key Stage or other). It is a big annual investment, but it works out at about £1/student/year at the moment. Student-friendly, teacher friendly, versatile and allows integration with other learning resources.

Andy Hodge found Educake:
  • Reduces teacher workload
It is an easy way to set meaningful cover work for myself or absent colleagues, provided IT is available to students. Students can be set differentiated work to match their needs, or students can have autonomy in deciding what to revise. Quizzes can be re-used year on year and by other teachers. Self-marking and the markbooks provide a very clear, quick record of how well students are engaging and achieving.
  • Builds student knowledge
Many students use Educake as one of their main resources for independent consolidation and revision. The ability to write your own questions means new contexts and extension content can be added to the existing questions. The supporting revision slides and capacity to add links to other resources mean that students can learn from themselves then check their understanding via the Educake platform.
  • Provides school data
We mainly use Educake for low stakes testing, but the marksheets clearly show engagement and levels of achievement, which staff can use as evidence for planning lessons and reporting on students' engagement, organisation, effort, etc.
  • Improves teaching efficiency
Some students engage with Educake a lot and it really helps them with their learning and consolidation. However, it doesn't require a lot of teacher time to set up and monitor.
  • Improves attainment
Hard to assess the impact of Educake alone. Most students will use it alongside other resources and activities. However, it provides excellent support, particularly in reinforcing key content. But students will need to do other things to develop exam skills and further application of knowledge.
