The English B textbook still needs revising for mistakes. My students and I have come across many of them while solving the activities. I've reported some, but not enough time to report all of them. I can't see students' responses. I’m new to the platform and my experience has been good, but honestly not great. The textbook material and resources are helpful, yet it is hard to check student progress for reading assignments (there is no place where to assess the end of each section short activity the book proposes). Only a progress bar where you can see if the student actually clicked/checked on the material you assigned. However, i’m trying a new approach. Reading/Listening together in class and creating google classroom submission assignments for them to upload the activity proposed. Most of those activities include answers that students can check right away, so I don’t find them particularly helpful, The platform also lets you create ‘question assignments’ in which you have a question bank to choose from or include your own. I think the idea is cool, but I don’t find it very useful. Example: I created a question style assignment (all from the same subtopic), yet when my students answered them (even when they had read the assigned text) the questions weren’t directly related to the reading. They were more about language use than reading or listening comprehension they need for paper 2. I don’t know if it’s as useful as I thought. On another note. I also find it annoying I can’t modify the textbook by choosing what to show students, they get to see everything including SL assignments (I teach HL). If it’s an online platform, it would be a lot cooler to select only the subtopics I want them to see and show them only the activities of HL.

Reply from Kognity:Hi Ines, Thank you for sharing this feedback! I am sorry to hear that you have found some mistakes in our brand new English B book—we are always happy to make corrections as needed! Our authors are excellent, but they are still human so we sometimes find errors too. The nice thing is that since our book is fully online, it is easy to make updates right away. Regarding our assignment functionality, there are ways to see student responses to both Reading and Question assignments, and we would be happy to help set up some additional training for you at your convenience to ensure you have a good familiarity with all our tools. When selecting questions, you can choose from a broad subtopic (Ex. “Chapter 1.2”) or a more specific theme within a subtopic (Ex. “Chapter 1.2.4). I’m glad to see you have been exploring many ways to use the platform and would be happy to find some time to set up some extra training for you! Mark, Kognity
Ines found Kognity:
  • Moderately reduces teacher workload
Self-correction is a plus sometimes, not for extended answers though. Also because some of the right answers as rendered as wrong.
  • Does not significantly improve attainment
  • Slightly builds student knowledge
I can't attribute much impact, it's just an aid that contributes to the overall impact in the class.
