At our school, we have received exceptional CPD, which has inspired us to explore and create innovative books across different subject areas. Our students love the variety and choice of books in the extensive library. The narration feature is brilliant! Our dyslexic students and reluctant readers can now listen to any book they choose and don't have to be limited to books at their reading level. This exposure to language has definitely had an impact on their reading attainment and engagement.

Jemma Tookey found Pickatale:
  • Builds student knowledge
The integrated quizzes after the books have helped my students consolidate their knowledge and develop critical thinking skills. Being able to create books on any subject has enabled them to develop their understanding. In many cases, they would prefer to read or listen to a digital book rather than visit the school library or trawl through a search engine for information. In our art lessons, I created a series of bilingual books focusing on specific artists for EAL students in their native languages. This led to increased engagement in the topic.
  • Improves parent engagement
Having the students access the books at home has had a significant impact on reading engagement and achievement. Moreover, parents have shared that they enjoy talking to their children about their personalised Create books with them at home. They like the fact that the quizzes provide a framework for them to check their child's understanding of what they have read.
  • Improves attainment
Top Picks books set at different levels have been benefical for stretching and challenging my higher ability readers. I've even created books at greater depth to similarly extend and expose them to more ambitious vocabulary, figurative language and varied sentence structure.
  • Increases student collaboration
In our Pick a Talk sessions students have been able to share their favourite books and talk about what books they might create together. Speaking and listening opportunites were rich as students asked and answered questions about their book choices.
  • Reduces teacher workload
We share books that we have written within our year groups and across the school. Curriculum subject leaders have also created books on specific topics. Creating a high quality book in such a short time has dramatically reduced my teaching workload - thank you!
