ELA Classroom Teacher

Used Pixton monthly for 4-6 months

It can be really helpful for specific applications, but the software and tools are challenging to many students. Many students complain that the program is very slow to run, others complain that there are not enough options for certain items (hockey gear) (how characters can interact with props) (characters not being able to have more than 1 talk bubble in a panel, ie. someone muttering to themselves multiple statements that should be separated for clarity and to convey tone)

Melissa found Pixton:
  • Does not significantly reduce teacher workload
We are currently using the program as creation tool for students to create their own graphic novels for our new graphic novels class.
  • Slightly improves teaching efficiency
Visual and creative students find Pixton assessments more engaging.
  • Does not improve teacher wellbeing
  • Moderately improves behaviour or wellbeing
Students wrote stories based on events in their lives. Some chose to unpack the stress they were under during Covid, others a painful breakup, I even had a student share about her experience moving to the United States from Russia. Pixton gave them a platform to process their feelings about significant life events.
  • Significantly improves attainment
Students are becoming better story tellers and learning all the details and thought required to tell a story using this medium.
