Let's compare Socrative to Microsoft Forms. It's better on the one hand, by having room names, however, it would be better to have area codes, or bespoke servers so names can be duplicated for simplicity. e.g. my students have to type in a long room name. Why not have have UK server "UK" and an area number (1 for London). Then rooms can be reused e.g. UK1Yr7a. This is easier to remember than some of the longer winded room names. Socrative also offers storage of data which is great since Forms doesn't do this easily. That said, do I feel I have value for money. Not really.

We really appreciate the careful comparison to Forms, and how we can better tailor the app to support your assessment needs. Mr Morton-Banner found Socrative:
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
Quantitative data for starters and plenaries
  • Does not significantly improve teaching efficiency
I can see it would be great for teaching and learning, but I find it too restrictive e.g. I would love some variation by allowing students to post to a board.
  • Moderately improves attainment
I can measure progress over time
  • Moderately builds student knowledge
I allows positive embedding through progress checks within a spiral curriculum
