Reply from Spellzone:Thank you for your feed-back Kiel. The Spelling Ability Test is a criterion-referenced test and designed to measure how well the students have mastered the Spellzone course material. We are unable to provide a spelling age as this would require a norm-referenced standardised test which measures how an individual does relative to other people who have taken the test. This would depend on us having control over the specific conditions that each test is taken and we also need to consider what support is being provided to each individual student, especially those working independently. Being an on-line course, it is not possible for us to do this. Many schools use a variety of standardised tests and run Spellzone alongside as a structured spelling intervention, for example see the Casterton College case study on our EdTech Impact profile.
Kiel Leaning found Spellzone:
  • Moderately reduces teacher workload
  • Slightly reduces attainment gap
Unable to know what their spelling age is form the spelling and ability tests.
  • Slightly provides school data
  • Slightly improves attainment
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
