Systems like iSAMS try to do a lot of things, and I can appreciate that none of those will be as good as specialised options e.g. we do not use the built in admissions, we use OpenApply. Whilst the system does the core items fairly well, it does feel like it is ageing and in need of overhaul, and despite it's best efforts, it does not feel like iSAMs has enough capacity to do this quickly enough.

- Provides school data“Not all data stored in the system can be exported; you need to request paid custom reports. The ability to bulk change, or import data is relatively limited.”
- Improves school processes“All of the modules, including the newly released ones, could be designed to be less clunky. Our internal school processes are robust, but sometimes we have to work around limitations of the system, or look for solutions outside of iSAMs. By their own admission, that are a lot of minor developments that are needed, which unfortunately when taken altogether, can cause frustration with some workflows.”
- Improves parent engagement“We use the inbuilt email wizard system, but since we onboarded it has been unreliable in some cases, and despite contact with support, that still persists. The email wizard is also only really good when you have mostly text and a few pictures - anything more complex and you have page pagination issues. We launched the Parent Portal to our families last summer, and whilst the recent UI update has been appreciated, the analytics now do not work, and some useful features that were available in the old Portal have now been discontinued.”
- Improves behaviour or wellbeing“I can't really comment on this part - we only just started to use the Rewards & Conduct module”
- Reduces teacher workload“I find this a tricky question - of course iSAMs is helping us. But I can't help but wonder if other systems would have been a better option. As mentioned before, there are quite some minor developments needed, and whilst I appreciate the hard work that iSAMS and it's development team are doing, they do not seem to have the capacity to 'fix' certain flaws. If you contact support, you are often directed to put in a suggestion to their Ideas Portal, but you can see that the top ideas from the community there have not been actioned after many years, which is quite discouraging.”

We are yet to use the system fully; however, the set up is very much 'old' by design - looks like it was an early 1990s Windows set up. Other systems are more intuitive and use fewer clicks to get the information required. I think the dashboard could be less cluttered and simpler to use. For example, the timetable appears in my day view and it would be obvious to be able to click on it and it open the register. However, there is no link and you have to click a different area to open the register. The modular nature can be frustrating as schools are not modular by design and cross-referencing of information is so often used. There just appears to be 2/3 clicks too many required when the trying to access information. A small but frustrating thing is is the attention to detail e.g. in the search function Pupil Manager asks for Forename and then Surname; Pupil Profile is Surname and Forename. It is a small thing but frustrating.

- Reduces teacher workload“Not at present. Greater automation of reports will be crucial for this. For example, an attendance report that is autogenerated at the end of every week would help hugely. I am hopeful that the system will begin to use such capabilities as this is to be expected now.”

This program does not seem to translate well to American schools. The coding is so rigid that we couldn't even adjust dates/times to our format. The terminology and needs of our school is so different than what was available in this program. We would not have selected this if we, as a school, were given the option.

- Improves school processes“Any process we try to do through iSAMS takes so many steps, it often feels not worth it. As an administrator, I like it for storing and accessing our data, but it is not time-effective for teachers to use the iSAMS system at all.”
- Provides school data“I am able to gather student info and produce reports. That's the extent of how we've used it so far.”
- Improves behaviour or wellbeing“We are tracking injuries in Medical Center, but that's it. Even that is hard because notices are not sent home to parents immediately, but at some designated time at the end of the day.”

We have only started with iSAMS and are trying all of the Modules. What I like most is how open iSAMS is to feedback. We receive constant emails listing updates to the system that are mostly directly tied to requests in the ideas community portal. Unlike other SIS companies I have worked with, iSAMS is humble and continues to improve its product.
