We are yet to use the system fully; however, the set up is very much 'old' by design - looks like it was an early 1990s Windows set up. Other systems are more intuitive and use fewer clicks to get the information required. I think the dashboard could be less cluttered and simpler to use. For example, the timetable appears in my day view and it would be obvious to be able to click on it and it open the register. However, there is no link and you have to click a different area to open the register. The modular nature can be frustrating as schools are not modular by design and cross-referencing of information is so often used. There just appears to be 2/3 clicks too many required when the trying to access information. A small but frustrating thing is is the attention to detail e.g. in the search function Pupil Manager asks for Forename and then Surname; Pupil Profile is Surname and Forename. It is a small thing but frustrating.

    At the moment, we are only using it for registration but it is providing valuable report data.

    Again, it will do moving forwards as we begin to access its full capability

    Not at the moment, but it will assuming we can get the reports we need from it.
  • Reduces teacher workload
    Not at present. Greater automation of reports will be crucial for this. For example, an attendance report that is autogenerated at the end of every week would help hugely. I am hopeful that the system will begin to use such capabilities as this is to be expected now.

This program does not seem to translate well to American schools. The coding is so rigid that we couldn't even adjust dates/times to our format. The terminology and needs of our school is so different than what was available in this program. We would not have selected this if we, as a school, were given the option.

  • Improves parent engagement
    The only parent engagement would be the Parent Portal. We are primarily only using it for billing.
  • Improves school processes
    Any process we try to do through iSAMS takes so many steps, it often feels not worth it. As an administrator, I like it for storing and accessing our data, but it is not time-effective for teachers to use the iSAMS system at all.
  • Provides school data
    I am able to gather student info and produce reports. That's the extent of how we've used it so far.
  • Improves behaviour or wellbeing
    We are tracking injuries in Medical Center, but that's it. Even that is hard because notices are not sent home to parents immediately, but at some designated time at the end of the day.
  • Reduces teacher workload
    We are not having our teachers use it because it was clear that it would increase teacher workload and not meet our needs for grading/reporting.

A lot of the modules are underdeveloped, and raising the basic flaws to support does not result in any change. The big module releases e.g. Curriculum Manager and Parent Portal, have been disappointing in terms of functionality and documentation.

    Some data is 'trapped' in the system, as you cannot export it. Analytical tools are missing - unless you want to pay more for Central. Some data sets feel like they should be linked, but are not

    Tools are there, but are basic.

We have only started with iSAMS and are trying all of the Modules. What I like most is how open iSAMS is to feedback. We receive constant emails listing updates to the system that are mostly directly tied to requests in the ideas community portal. Unlike other SIS companies I have worked with, iSAMS is humble and continues to improve its product.
