I attended from 2002 - 2010 when it was the ridings high school so some points may be irrelevant. This school is the worst place imaginable for a person with aspergers or autism. Huge classroom sizes and overcrowded. Meltdowns and cries for help were met with detentions. I quickly slipped down the classes until I was in a French class where the highest GCSE grade was a D! Why bother trying? And I like languages. I loved writing before I went to this school but the teachers and the environment here made me feel like a failure.

"The Ridings' Federation of Academies demands high standards in its Academies and all that it does, reinforcing its belief in the traditional values of hard work, discipline, courtesy and dress." - from the man who designed the school's website. As a pupil I can say that the teaching is good but the amount of low level disruption is out of order -- as flagged in the recent Ofsted report.

We've had three lessons with Winterbourne Swimming Academy so far and each one has had flaws for various reasons:

1) Allowed us to start mid term (thought this was a positive but later found it was not)
2) Placed my two boys in wrong group - Stage 1, despite being of higher ability and years of lessons prior
3) Had 3 different teachers in as many weeks
4) Discussion's with teacher not being relayed to next teacher despite promises of doing this
5) Strongly (and wrongly) telling my 5 year old son off for swimming when his float floated away from him, he was told to sit on the side. He was innocently swimming to collect his float.
6) Over stretched staff with too many children in the class
7) Large class sizes despite them trying to convince me otherwise when booking (I do not think a class of 6 children is small, lots of waiting time and giving other children time mess around in the water, whom may I add were not told off)
8) Would not allow refund due to their 'Policy' and instead suggested I continue with swimming lessons. They also can not offer a refund due to it being so late in the term and said our space is reserved no one else can join, however, we started late in the term and a new starter joined in the last lesson we had so I find this to be lacking truth. Poor excuses for not refunding an honest customer who simply would have liked to develop two boys swimming abilities further.
9) My 5 year old no longer wants to go swimming due to this bad experience and said he did not enjoy the swimming lessons.

I discussed my concerns with George Haskins on reception immediately after the last lesson we had with whom advised he will pass on my concerns to the Manager. Rob Hutton called me to advise a refund will not be offered which I requested to be escalated under the circumstances. I then received a call from Lisa Parsons, whom advised me a refund will not be offered. I have now escalated this higher and am awaiting a call from Mrs Dawn Franklin. I will await this phone call and escalate further if necessary.

If you had refunded the un-used swimming lesssons when I originally requested this would have been left in mutual agreement that Winterbourne Academy was not the right fit for my two boys. However, my request for the refund has been awaiting over a week now with numerous telephone calls and still no refund and you're still suggesting we continue swimming lessons with you.

Please can you kindly resolve this at your earliest convenience, I am now seeking all of my money back for the lessons paid due to the un-necessary upset and headache this has caused.

Repulsive, the way the teachers treat other I’m sorry but it is disgraceful how they have no idea what their words can do and how they can effect yet the try to teach kids that bullying or simply nasty things can effect someone NO MATTER the age yet the teacher do it themselves. Pathetic.
