What is Tassomai?

Tassomai is an adaptive learning program helping schools impact on attainment levels in core subjects at Key Stages 3 and 4.

Originally designed to support GCSE science, Tassomai has expanded to cover KS3 and KS4 English (literature and language), maths and science.

Tassomai’s multiple choice micro-quizzes reinforce knowledge through targeted repetition, like a flashcard. The quizzes are supported by short explainer videos and curated links to relevant external resources. At the same time the algorithm is learning each student’s strengths and weaknesses; it uses this information to target the gaps in a student’s knowledge and provide feedback to teachers on which areas individuals and entire classes need help with. Tassomai saves teachers time in two ways; it teaches AO1s, while also reducing the time they need to spend analysing their students, meaning they can focus on teaching and targeting intervention.

A detailed report into Tassomai's impact is available to download below.

Recommended Usage

Our product presents students with a target: a “Daily Goal” of multiple choice questions for them to try and answer, on average the goal is about 40 questions per day.

The teacher dashboard presents students’ usage over the past 7 days, and classifies engagement under three headings: Engaged (students who’ve completed their Daily Goal 4+ times over the last 7 days), Struggling (students who’ve completed their DG 2-3 times) or Lapsed (students who’ve completed less than 2 DG). However, not all schools use the DG system as a means of measuring engagement.

Tassomai is accessed through a web browser or via our mobile app and it doesn't use a lot of mobile data.

Set Up

First, schools are sent a setup form, in which we take the information required to build orders to our system. During setup, we recommend schools book in a training demo, with at least two members of staff present. Once setup is complete, all staff receive a launch email, containing their school’s unique activation code. This code is then used by their students on our website to create their accounts. Students select their class from a dropdown which is created from the information provided on the setup form. Both staff and students require access to an internet-enabled computer or laptop in order to login to Tassomai. Tassomai is supported by all major internet browsers. Additionally, students with a smartphone will be able to download our mobile app for free and access Tassomai anywhere with an internet signal.

TrainingIn PersonLive OnlineDocumentationVideos

We strongly encourage schools (particularly new schools) to book a 30 minute training demo.

Conducted via screen-share software, unless specifically requested to be in-person, departments will go through how Tassomai works from both a staff and student perspective, with time left at the end for general Q&A.

These can be filmed and shared with the school afterwards as a reference point, or for teachers who were unable to make the original demo. We also have lots of helpful content for teachers and students on our blog.

Used Tassomai weekly for 7–12 months

Aug 2022

I have already recommended it to Maths and English as well as the trial for Business and Computer Science. It definitely suits certain subjects more than others.

Gavin Terry found Tassomai:
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
Using it as homework assignments reduces time spent marking work and allows teachers to focus their attention on where there are gaps in a students understanding
  • Significantly provides school data
We have been able to get an idea of how much time students are committing to the subject independently. We can see how many questions are being answered, the accuracy of those answers, and which topics within a Science subject students are answering easily or having difficulty with.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
Establishing routines with Tassomai has helped. Whether it is being used as a starter, plenary, or for homework, it allows a quick assessment of every individual in the class and provides an independent resource for students to use.
  • Slightly improves attainment
It is perhaps a little early for us to see this yet - we may know more once the IGCSE results come out. In shorter term end of unit tests I haven't seen a noticeable increase in attainment. Having said that, students do appreciate the additional revision resource. It should help with our CIE IGCSE Paper 1/2 as these are multiple choice.
  • Slightly builds student knowledge
Tassomai is great at testing student knowledge and identifying areas of weakness to both the teacher and the student. Given it creates a unique learning experience for each student it helps them to focus on areas they need to. There is often a tendency for some students to simply repeatedly guess. If it had a feature where there is a simple explanation of why an answer is correct or incorrect it would have a bigger impact.

10 is a high score, I know. And this software deserves it. It is more than a learning tool. It reduces teacher workload, and individualises learning in an efficient way. The best part is that this software is not just a buy and use. It is given soul by the dedicated staff that are always enthusiastic and available to help. There are so many online videos and a blog that shows that Tassomai will continue to evolve.

  • Significantly provides school data
Tassomai offers metrics on the most important academic data, like who is putting in effort, what their accuracy is, and how much progress they are making.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency
I've been using Tassomai data to drive my feedback, starters and plenaries. It removes the need for paperwork and time spent checking answers... Time is now spent guiding learners
  • Significantly improves attainment
Students knew the answers to the synoptic section in their test, which usually trips them up.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
Students knew answers to questions ahead of the actual lesson (plum-pudding model).

There are many positive elements to Tassomai which have made supporting our students and staff within schools far more effective. The students are provided with up to date feedback and can address areas of misconception or gaps in knolwedge. For staff, assessment of students is fedback quickly and the information can be used to provide effective and timely interventions to address potential areas of concern.

Nicky Crum found Tassomai:
  • Significantly improves attainment
By regular exposure to science content, students become more familiar with key concepts and application of knolwedge. This imporves confidence and so students begin to build up examination resiliance
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
Regular exposure to content that students find more difficult allows them to build thier knowledge and understanding up quickly. The personalised feedback from Tassomai allows teachers to work on bespoke interventions with their students and as a class if there are obvious gaps in knowledge.
  • Significantly improves teaching efficiency and productivity
Tassomai makes assessing student understanding incredibly simple and does the hard work for staff. Bespoke feedback on individuals as well as whole class and cohort ensures that interventions can be in place quickly to address misconceptions or gaps in knowledge.
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
Tassomai can be set as homework or as additional support work for students. As the program is constantly assessing the users, the marking element is removed for teachers allowing them to spend thier time creating enrichment and intervention materials.
  • Significantly provides school data
The data that Tassomai produces is realtime data and is used across our schools to support with accurate assessment of our students. The program also provides bespoke feedback to parents to allow for regular dialogue between school and home

Impactful - it really does help students to remember more facts. Great team of people supporting it - efficient, helpful and genuinely in edtech for the right reason. Innovative - the platform is always finding ways to help schools and students to improve their learning of key facts.

Reece Broome found Tassomai:
  • Significantly improves attainment
Positive correlation between % of Tassomai completed and science index score. Also a positive correlation between % of Tassomai completed and GCSE grade.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
Ample anecdotal evidence of students knowing key facts as a result of the retrieval practice they are benefiting from through using Tassomai... 'I remember this was on Tassomai' is a common phrase in Torquay Academy science classrooms.
  • Moderately improves teaching efficiency and productivity
Through regular usage of Tassomai, students remember more facts. This means lessons will run smoother and at a faster pace, as less time is spent recapping and more time is spent teaching/learning.
  • Significantly reduces teacher workload
Tassomai is our principal science homework for key stage 4. All teachers have to do is track their classes performance, which we now do through the use of a display in the science corridor and a class vs class competition.
  • Significantly provides school data
Tassomai's data is a key component in a multitude of data points we capture for each student. We use a student's Tassomai completion data as a measure of raw effort. The basic premise is that if a student is motivated enough to spend circa 20 mins every other day answering MCQs throughout year 11, then they will be bothered enough to do the extra revision we put in place in the run up to their exams. This gives us a proxy to use when trying to predict a student's final grade. As a subject our prediction were the most accurate in the school and the Tassomai data was one of the main reasons why.

This is the only platform which systematically helps students learn the thousands of facts necessary for a solid grounding In science. It’s algorithms make it truly personalised to students. Our large, mixed coastal comprehensive school enjoys exceptionally high pass rates and a disproportionate share of top grades. Tassomai is part of this success story.

John Mellitt found Tassomai:
  • Significantly improves attainment
Tassomai is a key part of our science education success formula which has seen outcomes increase to an exceptional level.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge

  • Moderately improves teaching efficiency and productivity
Most helpful in motivating students to study
  • Moderately reduces teacher workload
