I believe Alps is an exceptional tool which, when fully utilised by schools and students, can have a hugely positive impact on student and school outcomes. There is real clarity in Alps reports with the opportunity to drill down to a really detailed level of analysis for self-evaluation and improvement.

The only element of feedback which staff have reported back would be the choice of colour in the thermometer. Staff across schools often associate red with negative (RAG rating), but then a thermometer is red or blue.

It is a useful tool - but I'm not sure if the analysis of results/performance data alone is as big an insight as it is presented in an era where we could be looking more broadly at behavioural data.

I first introduced ALPS when Vice-Principal at a previous independent school 16 years ago. It was invaluable in gaining an objective view of the college's performance both to encourage teaching staff and to inform inspectors. It fits well with a school strategy centred on the pastoral support of students in a robust personal tutor system.

ALPS have been very reliable and quick to answer phone calls. Software really helps us and is very user friendly. We use ALPS for A Level but are now also moving away from CEM at GCSE to ALPS.
