Lexia has been incredibly successful within our school. As a mainstream state school with a wide range of ability and SEN, Lexia has provided us with a reading and literacy strategy that supports all students as they transition from primary school and for those who continue to use Lexia into KS4, who struggle with persistent literacy difficulties that require intervention beyond quality first teaching. Monica Babuta, who has been my contact at Lexia has made the process of shifting to Lexia easy and successful. Supportive training and team-calls with Monica have been invaluable.
Amy Robbins found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“Students with dyslexia have benefited significantly from accessing the program. It has enabled them to read texts pitched at their level, whilst explicit instruction in literacy skills has enabled them to develop these alongside their reading levels.”
- Builds student knowledge“The content of reading material is varied and wide-ranging, developing students' understanding of the world. Texts are also from a range of genres, perspectives, cultures and contexts, increasing pupils ability and confidence with the unseen texts pupils will encounter at GCSE.”
- Provides school data“A wide range of data relation to students' usage and progress is available that enables the school to reflect on pupils academic achievements and effort levels. Data is also available to leaders to provide information about the fidelity of the way the program is implemented by literacy leads and class teachers.”
- Improves attainment“Teachers and pupils have commented on the knowledge and skills that pupils have developed through Lexia. Pupils have commented upon improvements in spelling, grammar and reading ability in particular, whilst teachers have noted improvements in writing accuracy and ability.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“Precision teaching through Lexia means that teachers can personalise learning and target key areas of need for every individual in their classroom at the same time.”

Really positive so far, yet to see the full impact. Progress with higher ability is slower, and the grammar units are very long which doesn't motivate students terribly well. I think there could be improvements to the tracking - I'd like to be able to 'mass print' the student tracking grids, and see their streaks without having to ask them.
Laura Pheasey found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“SEN students and those in lower ability sets have made significant progress in all 3 strands. The gender gap has also decreased.”
- Builds student knowledge“Students are applying their knowledge gained from Lexia across the curriculum”
- Provides school data“Daily use of data to inform interventions and support”
- Improves attainment“Students are applying their knowledge across the curriculum”
- Improves teaching efficiency“Not enough evidence yet”

In my opinion, the programme is good and it ticks a lot of our boxes. As a school, we are trying to work out how we can use the interventions to the best of their ability.
James Bushell found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“I have seen children who have used Lexia as a supplementary tool and it has helped them close the gap with their peers.”
- Builds student knowledge“Children have been able to retain new vocabulary and embed that into their learning.”
- Provides school data“As data lead it has helped me track reading and see the progress within the lessons. Furthermore, enabling the teaching staff to use this as a supplementary resource in order to bolster attainment.”
- Improves attainment“Certain children have closed the gaps as this has been seen in their internal data alongside their assessment. As a school, we are now tracking the children and their data who are also using this as part of their reading journey.”
- Improves teaching efficiency

Lexia PowerUp has proven to be a highly effective, student-centred literacy intervention. It delivers measurable progress, engages even reluctant readers, and provides excellent real-time data to guide teaching. The programme is easy to implement, supports diverse learner needs, and has had a noticeable impact on confidence, skill development, and overall literacy attainment in a short space of time. It’s an invaluable tool for any educator supporting post-primary students with reading difficulties.
L. Foley found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“Students made measurable gains in multiple strands of the programme (e.g., Word Study, Grammar, Comprehension) within a short timeframe of less than one month. Each student showed progress in specific skill areas directly aligned with their individual literacy profiles (e.g. phonological awareness, vocabulary, sentence structure). Students are working below age-level expectations, and the tailored support provided by Lexia appears to be narrowing the gap by building foundational skills and improving reading confidence. The use of consistent progress tracking and personalised pathways indicates the programme is targeting the exact skills needed to close literacy gaps.”
- Builds student knowledge
- Provides school data“The reports offer visual tracking of progress over time and highlight when students are struggling or excelling, supporting early intervention and personalised planning. The data is easily exportable and suitable for use in Support Plans and Reviews.”
- Improves attainment“In just a few weeks, students made tangible gains in core literacy areas, such as phonological decoding, grammar, and reading comprehension. One student moved up multiple units in Word Study, while another progressed from struggling with basic sentence structure to applying grammar rules with greater accuracy. The structured, adaptive nature of Lexia ensures that progress is both meaningful and measurable.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“The programme significantly enhanced the efficiency of my literacy support sessions. While students worked independently through their personalised pathways, I was able to provide targeted support to individuals without interrupting the learning of others. The built-in progress tracking reduced the need for separate assessments and planning, allowing me to make real-time instructional decisions. This level of automation and insight has made it easier to manage mixed-ability groups effectively and maximise the impact of each session.”

I have found using lexia to be extremely resourceful for myself and a great programme for children to build confidence and resilience in their learning. Children are eager to complete their allocated time, to receive certificates, praise and move up the levels.
Raeesa Patel found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“An example would be providing the child with the skill builders pr lesson and providing them with the support required.”
- Builds student knowledge“Student knowledge is recognised not only in lexis but also across the curriculum in other subjects.”
- Provides school data“Impact on school data is that it provides details of the children on the programme and their progression throughout.”
- Improves attainment“children have gained understanding, knowledge and skills.”
- Improves teaching efficiency

May 2025
The children enjoyed using the program and engaged well. All children made progress in the time that we used the program - some more than others. From an adult's point of view, the program ran itself, with only a little input required when a child really didn't understand a concept. These resources for 1:1 delivery were also provided by the program. The support we received was outstanding. Like all interventions, there is a cost associated with the program, which is the only slight limitation.
Jo G found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Builds student knowledge“Younger children are more confident in naming letter names and sounds.”
- Reduces attainment gap“A child that entered the program below their age-expected level has now been assesses at their age-appropriate level following the completing of the program.”
- Provides school data“Data from Lexia is very encouraging. One child made a significant number of steps progress in preparation for the Phonics Test.”
- Improves attainment“Class teachers have reported increased gains the younger children's scores in their preparations for the phonics test. All children using the program have made gains in their attainment (months) in the short time that they have used the software.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“With the children working independently through the software at their own pace, it has allowed me time to work with those individuals in the group who have required 1:1 support, as identified by the program. There is little planning and marking required.”

Lexia has provided us with a method to deliver literacy interventions to a large number of students without the need for a high proportion of staffing. This has made Lexia very cost effective. We have also seen excellent improvements in the Standard Age Scores of students using Lexia.
L Gregg found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“Students using Lexia have seen an increase in their Standard Age Score for reading. With 100 being the average Standard Age Score (SAS), last year we saw an increase in SAS of 7.9 for students in year 7. In year 9, we saw an average increase in SAS for those students using Lexia of 9.8, with PP students seeing an increase of 12.3 in SAS.”
- Builds student knowledge“It breaks down literacy skills into word study, grammar and comprehension. Following an initial assessment, Lexia will target students to the correct level in each area to develop their literacy skills.”
- Provides school data“Lexia allows the school to track students' individual data and also the cohort as a whole in each of the 3 areas of study so we can see which area needs the most support.”
- Improves attainment“We have less students needing to us Lexia as they get older, showing that their reading age is improving. We have 44 in year 7, 33 in year 8, 30 in year 9 and 19 in year 10.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“Students with stronger literacy skills are able to access the curriculum more easily and this makes teaching knowledge and skills in the individual subjects easier.”

It is such an informative program that starts with the assessment and then measure progress each and every step of the way.
Louise Parker found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“Some of our vulnerable groups have moved from being 1/2 years behind their reading age to exceeding their age related expectations. It is a great bespoke program that goes back and fills in gaps of children's knowledge that they haven't grasped in previous years.”
- Builds student knowledge“The children are more secure in knowing the different terminology and the early reading skills that they weren't ready for such as conjunctions, suffixes etc.”
- Provides school data“Tracking children's data and comparing it with outcomes on the lexia data dashboard is really useful in seeing that children are meeting their targets in all areas of reading- lexia, formal assessments, teacher predictions, fluency in reading and the comprehension skills.”
- Improves attainment“We can identify the gaps from the data dashboard and see how much of a struggle it is and then run intervention groups. The program is repetitive which helps to go in the long term memory. We have 135 licenses up and running now with children aiming for 100 minutes a week. We are seeing the positive impact!”
- Improves teaching efficiency“You can target more children at one time and they are working on level that is bespoke to them. This means more children can be intervened at any given time.”

We really like it and are currently in our second 3 year subscription. Initially, we subscribed during Covid school closure and it enabled us to support and monitor the children's reading, whilst not in school. At the of the 3 years, we could not afford to renew. However, we were very lucky to secure private funding to pay for it - as they felt it was a valuable educational tool, and the children enjoyed it.
Rebecca Lyman found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“Lexia enables children to access high-quality, focused reading tasks at home (as well as school). The fun graphics and 'games' appearance of the content, make children want to complete the tasks...not realising that they are reading. For some children, where they might not be reading at home, this can be a great 'hidden' way to get them to read - without realising.”
- Builds student knowledge“Our reading results are consistently above national and Lexia is one of the strategies we use alongside a well-designed curriculum, where high-quality texts are central.”
- Improves attainment“Lexia is one of several strategies we use in school. Combined together, they had a big impact. Our results are strong.”
- Provides school data“We use the teacher's portal to access whole-school, cohort and individual data. Children receive the certificates in assembly. We give it a high profile. Analysis of the data helps us to know where some children might need additional support - and then implement interventions.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“I am Headteacher of two very small (only 100 in total) small schools. All classes are mixed age and Lexia is one tool we use to enable children to access high-quality learning, whilst the teacher may be working with different groups - confident that they are still maximising their learning time.”

- Provides school data“Data is shared with staff to show what children are working on and which units have been completed. Data shows which year group children are working.”
- Improves attainment“Children have been able secure goals and master skills.”
- Improves teaching efficiency“Children are becoming more confident with basic literacy skills, so time and attention can be spent on teaching the unit, rather than basics skills.”

Excellent communication with Ben. Always on hand to support and respond to questions or provide training. Launch of the system has been seamless and students are responding well and making progress. The rewards system is also welcomed to build a positive culture. In only a few months the intervention is having an impact.
Ashlene Forder found Lexia Reading Skills Software:

- Builds student knowledge“Exposure to a range of non-fiction texts and subject specific vocabulary.”
- Provides school data“The platform provides individualised reports with a breakdown for each year group, significantly PP students.”
- Improves attainment
- Improves teaching efficiency“As students reading ages improve they are accessing work that previously they would have been unable to do so. An intervention that takes less man power to facilitate but reaches many students.”

Lexia is a useful piece of software, which, unlike some interventions, students are generally happy to use. It is highly personalised to their needs, and visible measures like streaks etc. help them to understand and appreciate when they have made progress. The UI for staff is intuitive and easy to navigate. However, sometimes there are issues with content loading (e.g., the site is slow to respond to students choosing their answers), and I have noticed that resources tend to default to American spellings/word usages, which can cause confusion in an English school.
Lana Wrigley found Lexia Reading Skills Software:
- Reduces attainment gap“51% of all students enrolled on Lexia last year increased their Reading Ages (as measure by the Star Reading test). 33% of these increased by more than a year. 71% of our SEND students enrolled on Lexia increased their Reading Ages.”
