It's an incredibly sophisticated system with a lot of capabilities. At times, it can be tricky to navigate, especially when an element of the system hasn't been used for a while. The date ranges can sometimes cause issues with rolling-over targets or closing off objectives. The support School IP offers through Andy and Steve is really good - if we are in doubt, we know we can call to ask.

    It is a good space to keep school improvement evidence together. School IP allows all members of SLT to access information that adds to our understanding of SIP progress and to identify next steps.
  • Significantly provides school data
    By changing the status of targets, we can see visually how well we are progressing towards our intended aims and can adjust our plans accordingly if needed.
  • Does not significantly improve teaching efficiency
    Before we used School IP to record information from lesson observations, we simply used Word documents. This meant having to open them individually to gain a full picture of each teacher's effectiveness. Since we have been using the 'strengths' and 'next steps' feature, this is easier to find in one place, although we still need to refine how we are using this to ensure it is even clearer.
  • Does not significantly improve teacher wellbeing
    Some teachers like the fact that they can record their evidence on the portfolio so they can show the work they have been doing to develop themselves and their practice over the year. Other teachers find using the system difficult which can add to their workload when they need to find time to meet with someone to help them to do this. As a line manager, I personally find the evidence base very useful for performance management discussions and to identify ways to further support each staff member. This impacts positively on my wellbeing as I know I can be prepared for upcoming meetings by reading uploaded documentation and evidence. Since we have been using the grading system against the teaching standards, there has been some additional pressure felt by some teachers as they struggle with making a decision about where they feel their practice best fits.
  • Significantly improves school processes
    SIP being a live document with progress monitored. Observations linked to teacher portfolios makes feedback easy to access. Good way to record CPD. Performance management is a two-way process.

    All of the forms are automatically populated on SchoolIP therefore there is no need to find the form, complete it and upload it.

    We are just getting to grips with this as we are approaching the end of the first year. It is proving useful to see areas of strengths and areas that require development. Seeing all the questions and trends from questions is really useful in ascertaining whether we are meeting our SDP targets.

    This allows staff to share their work with their line manager, thus meaning they feel valued and noticed for their contributions.
  • Significantly improves school processes
    The process of Appraisal is now much simpler, everything is accessible in one central place which saves time, meaning more time can be spent on other areas of school life.

    Staff engagement in their own PD supports value and sense of belonging, which in turn could support staff retention. This would impact on school resources as the staff turnover would be less. Staff feel more included in their professional development and lead their own learning; supporting autonomy over this and moving away from the performance related pay which will be stopped next year through recent guidance.

    Staff are able to link in all areas of their work to SchoolIP, sharing with other colleagues but also building up a virtual portfolio. Connections can be made with other staff in the school to share practice and ideas; supplementing the professional development of all staff and not just themselves. With the use of SchoolIP on phones and iPads as well it means that reflections, evidence and actions can be completed wherever the staff are and instantly loaded to their platform.
  • Moderately provides school data
    Engagement within the system and reflections of the teaching standards support SLT to be able to understand the strengths and areas for development across the school. We have also been able to include new developments such as the work we are doing with professional focus groups; supporting collaboration between staff, and including their reflections on this through the monitoring forms. We have built our paperwork into the system to support this and will be able to extract data as a result from this. SLT can also input SDP and SEF information which shows at a glance where we see ourselves as a provision and what we celebrate, as well as where we are heading next
  • Moderately improves teacher wellbeing
    Being able to reduce the workload of staff through the collaborative system, as well as having access to personlised monitoring forms has meant that wellbeing has improved. However the move to a more staff led PD cycle; giving autonomy over the target for the year, which is focused and allows for regular check ins over the year to ensure discussion and reflection, has had the biggest impact on wellbeing. Staff are invested in the target they have set and see ways to move it forward, using the PD partner as a coach or facilitator to share ideas and discuss next steps; rather than having the meeting and focus being identified for them. Autonomy and competence are celebrated; building on prior success and acknowledging that the direction of the PD can change course and be tweaked over the year rather than having to stick with an outcome which they don't know or want to work on for the duration.
  • Moderately improves school processes
    Although having only used this with staff for a couple of months; we have already noted that the engagement of staff, being able to use it as a professional portfolio as well as allowing all records to be in one place has really streamlined the paperwork. Where possible we are looking to use SchoolIP to be our 'paperwork' base; adapting the monitoring forms where possible to ensure that we are not creating additional work but that this is also accessible to staff across school where needed. There is no more need to share through emails or in a paper document which could get lost; it is all centralised

    The teachers entire profile is in one system and everything is linked. For example, a personal target can be linked to the SEF and SDP and one piece of evidence can be used for all three areas.

School IP reduces SLT workload, particularly in relation to performance management. In addition to this it allows staff to access feedback at a time and place that suits them and provides them with a secure place to plan and develop their own career progression through CPD tracking and individualised targets.

    Allows clear visuals of teacher and TA performance data that can be utilised to inform the school improvement plan and identify CPD needs.

    I think all staff like seeing positive feedback and having it available to them at all times. In addition clear and concise feedback is also helpful so that staff can reflect on their own next steps. Staff are not beholden to meetings and note taking, the information is always available to them.

    School processes are simpler and quicker to implement with this system, reducing the time SLT spend on performance management particularly.
